1. Transcript Review:

The first step in evaluating course credit from any other institution is reviewing student transcripts.  Typically, when students are admitted to the University, the Office of Admission requests an evaluation of credit from The Office of Transfer Credit on behalf of that student. Students are also welcome to reach out before admission or acceptance to the University and share unofficial or official copies of their transcripts to complete an evaluation before acceptance.

Once received, The Office of Transfer Credit will review transcripts for courses that meet the minimum credit eligibility requirements, and check to see if any eligible courses have already been evaluated for equivalency.

The Transfer Credit Office will reach out via email to provide information on course equivalency, or request any additional documentation (specifically syllabi) to complete an evaluation.

  2. Course Evaluation:

In the circumstance where a course meets minimum requirements, but has not yet been evaluated, a request for syllabus for that course will be made to you.

Once a syllabus has been received, it will be shared with the evaluation team for review. Evaluations happen weekly, and typically take 10 days to complete. Once all evaluations are complete, the student will be notified via email.

As a friendly reminder, transfer courses must equal Catholic University courses. The transfer courses must have similar content, grading schema, assignments, course objectives, etc. Catholic does not currently offer courses in Western Line Dancing, so if that course was taken elsewhere it is very unlikely that an equivalent course will be found in the evaluation process.

  3. Course Posting

When you have matriculated (paid your deposit and are activated as a current student by the Office of Admission), and ensured submission of an Official Transcript for your courses, the Office of Transfer Credit will add credits for transferable courses to your Cardinal Station account, and notify you.

Your Academic Advisor will assist you with course registration, and can provide clarification on the degree requirements that have been fulfilled by each course.

As a reminder, students are REQUIRED to complete 60 credits at Catholic University, approximately 1/2 of the liberal arts general curriculum and 1/2 of their major required courses, in order to gradate successfully from Catholic University.
